Art for Creation’s Sake

Standing in the sunlit halls of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles California, I was overwhelmed by the art filling each wall. Intricate oils, gentle watercolors, and rugged sculptures dazzle the viewer at every turn. Truly, a feast for the senses through and through. Its easy to see these master works of art and marvel at them without thinking of the countless sketches, studies, and scraped works that littered these great artist’s studios in their life time. When I see these works of art I am struck with each paint stroke, pencil line, and lighting choice. Each stroke represented a decision: a discovery.
